It was a cold morning for our first coffee of 2018, but that did not stop the awesome Denton Young Professionals!
We had a great turn out to hear more about our Not-For-Profit of the Year: Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home.
Starting off with an amazing breakfast, provided by The Chestnut Tree, we indulged on fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage, blueberry blintzes, and breakfast tacos. Breakfast was sponsored by Wallace Accounting and Advisory services, and free to all current Denton Young Professionals members.
Since it was the first coffee of the year and we had such a good turn out, we wanted to make sure that everyone knew a little about each other. We took time to go around the room and introduce ourselves by saying our names, what we do professionally, and what personal or professional goals we have for the new year. Goals ranged from being more active at networking events to intentionally not having a goal.
After we had our fill of breakfast, we learned more about our Not-For-Profit of the Year: Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home. We learned the extend history of Cumberland and how they ending up in Denton. Then we learned about what ways we are planning to be involved with Cumberland throughout the year. To interact directly with the children at the home, DYP members will have to go through background checks and training. Many members plan on doing this, but we also want members to be able to help out without going through the background checks. So we are planning events at Cumberland like a kickball tournament, grounds beautification projects, and a holiday party. Stay turned for updates on the events we will be doing throughout the year.
Denton Young Professional’s 2018 goal as an organization is to have more consistent involvement from our members. We have Mixers the first Thursday of every month, Coffees the third Wednesday of every month, and periodic events with our Not-For-Profit of the Year. Check out our membership newsletter or Facebook page for updates on our events every month!
